The Red Tower Fair on 7th July was blessed with a rare event this summer, a warm and sunny day.

The Friends of York Walls in association with the local residents provided stalls, games, entertainment, activities and refreshments. A good afternoon was had by all.

Photos of the event can be viewed here.

If you missed the Red Tower Fair we will be doing it all again at Tofts Fair Bishophill, inside the walls near to Victoria Bar, on 21st July from 12 – 4 pm.

On Saturday 14th July the Lord Mayor will be entertained by the 50 piece ‘York Concert Band’ outside Kings Manor, followed by a “Walk on the Walls”.

We need help setting up at 11am, erecting 3 gazebos and setting up 50 chairs. Once the Concert Band are playing we need at least 3 people helping to collect money for the Mayors Charities from the crowd of people that will hopefully gather around.

We also need volunteers to walk with the Mayor from the Mansion House to Kings Manor, and then for a walk on the walls.

In one of his last official duties, the outgoing Lord Mayor of York, Coun David Horton, presented a commemorative certificate to Philip Noble to celebrate the sponsoring of the 100th stone of Fishergate Postern Tower.

It was accompanied by an afternoon tea and a tour of the Mansion House. Coun Horton was thanked for all he had done as patron of The Friends of York Walls in his year in office.
