Friends of York Walls has made a bid for support from the Heritage Lottery Fund to refurbish the 500 year old Postern Tower and give it a new lease of life as a visitor centre and cafe. City of York Council has been asked to provide funding to complete repair work, which is essential to the heritage fund bid, to the ancient four storey building on the corner of Fishergate and Piccadilly.

Danny Aitken, a schoolboy from York, is preparing to walk around York city walls five times for charity after learning that his grandfather is suffering from cancer. Danny, aged 12, hopes to raise £2000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity in honour of his grandfather John Houston. Despite suffering from severe asthma, the Manor School pupil is determined to finish the ten-mile walk.
